In honour of the 40th anniversary of our ambassador Daley Thompson’s first gold medal win at the Olympic Games Moscow 1980, we’re excited to have teamed up with the official Olympic Channel podcast to launch a four-part series featuring legendary UK Olympians from the past four decades.
The first episode of the series will premiere on Wednesday 29th July, with new conversations dropping the three following Wednesdays.
Throughout the series, two-time Olympic Games Decathlon gold medallist Daley will look back on the last 40 years of incredible Olympic memories to interview other iconic British Olympians. He’ll be joined by heptathlon gold medallist Denise Lewis, Team GB’s most decorated female Olympian Dame Katherine Grainger, and Daley’s fellow Bridgestone ‘Chase Your Dream, No Matter What’ ambassador and bronze and silver medallist in taekwondo, Lutalo Muhammad.
Each athlete will talk about the highs and lows of their journey in pursuit of their Olympic Games dream and share insights to inspire and motivate. They’ll discuss how anyone can adopt an athlete mentality to help keep them on track in their everyday lives.
Episode 1 chronicles Daley’s own journey, diving into the memories of the former world record holder and Britain’s most successful decathlete.
In episode 2, Daley is joined by his friend, Olympic champion heptathlete Denise Lewis for an in depth chat about her battle against serious injury to win gold in 2000, her mental struggles with the British media before 2004, and how she managed to overcome these obstacles to chase her dream no matter what.
Then next week, episode 3 will have Daley and Olympic Channel Podcast host Ed Knowles will chat to the UK’s most decorated female athlete, Dame Katherine Granger, about the early days of her rowing career during university in Edinburgh, the importance of belonging, and the unforgettable experience of competing in her home country during the Olympic Games London 2012.
As always on the Olympic Channel Podcast, we aim to inspire and motivate listeners with insight into the world’s best athletes. In working with Denise Lewis, Katherine Grainger and Lutalo Muhammad, there are certainly a lot of great Olympic stories to share.Ed Knowles , Olympic Channel Podcast Host
