As the first manufacturer to introduce run flat tyres in the 1980s, Bridgestone continues to pioneer Run Flat Technology with a product line roll-out.
Journeys interrupted by a punctured or damaged tyre cause delays, inconveniences and can lead to dangerous situations. To combat this issue, Bridgestone added its proprietary and revolutionary DriveGuard Run Flat Technology (RFT) to its main tyre line-up. This development is a leap forward for everyday drivers in terms of safety, convenience and peace of mind, as DriveGuard RFT will allow them to keep going, even in the case of a puncture¹.
Whether a driver faces a puncture, air leak or tyre damage, DriveGuard RFT will help them stay in control and continue driving safely for 80 km at up to 80 kph². Consumers now have the opportunity to experience the safety benefits of run flat tyres combined with the performance capabilities of the Turanza, Blizzak and Weather Control tyres.
DriveGuard RFT is now available for the replacement market, which is unique to the industry, as all other tyre brands restrict the run flat technology to tyres equipped as original equipment on specific car models. Bridgestone’s tyres with DriveGuard RFT can be fitted on any car equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Paolo Ferrari, CEO and President of Bridgestone EMEA, says
“You never know what can go wrong on the roads, but our run flat tyres give drivers peace of mind on their journey and ensure they arrive safely at their destination. This is essential to drivers and will become even more important in the future with autonomous cars. By increasing the availability of this technology and its benefits to even more drivers means we can continue to keep everyone going, no matter what.”
Bridgestone gives drivers the confidence to get where they need to go as conveniently and safely as possible. In almost 90 years, the company transformed from a leading tyre manufacturer to a mobility solutions leader and DriveGuard RFT is playing a central role in this shift.

Back in 2015, when Bridgestone EMIA was first assessed by EcoVadis, the globally-recognised provider of business sustainability ratings, we were awarded a Silver rating and ranked in the top 12 percent of businesses globally that manufacture rubber products.
In 2018, we announced that three of our tyre plants in Spain – Bilbao, Puente San Miguel and Burgos – had begun sourcing 100 per cent of their electricity from renewable sources.
