Blogger Derek Price recounts his experiences of the Track Day at Snetterton on Bridgestone Battlax S20s.
Last Monday was the Snetterton track day.
I scrubbed the Fireblades S20s in with a 170mile ride to the track on Sunday afternoon in dry weather.
The Monday morning sessions for the fast group ranged from wet to very wet, still it suited me as I’ve never seen the place before and experienced similar conditions at Silverstone.
Sharing a garage with track bikes on full wets and using tyre warmers is always a bit daunting, but going around the outside of them at Corams and getting it stopped for Murrays was only ever going to mean two things; either they had wasted good money on wets or I was about to spend a shed load on plastics.
Very happy to report I survived the morning with wallet intact, and went on to enjoy knee down dry sessions in the afternoon.
Using the S20s at on road pressures never gave me any moments (obviously need to try harder), which is remarkable considering I was new to the track and was having to sometimes adjust my line mid corner, especially during the initial wet morning sessions. I was also able to confidently increase the pace as the track dried, sometimes preferring to sacrifice acceleration down the straights to assess grip against the smaller nimbler bikes through the corners.
I enjoyed it so much I have slotted in a track day at Spa on August 16th, two weeks before the Nurburgring.
