Bridgestone & Rob Yates

So far we have had another enjoyable season right from first getting on the new bike at The Apex promo day in February and racing it most weekends as I have been taking part in the BSMA Bridgestone series for the second year running. I had much more success this year winning some races and finishing the championship second overall, I have also been racing in the British championship in my final year in the youth class. It has been good to be able to represent Bridgestone for another year and to take part in the 3 day Bridgestone world event along with the rest of the sponsored riders and others from the different areas that Bridgestone are involved in.

My most recent event was the Maxxis British Championship at Fat Cats. Coming into the 5th and final round of the 2015 MXY2 series points standings were close as I lay second with a small advantage on 3rd and 4th position. First out for qualifying on a smooth and fast track, struggled to put a fast lap in and finished the session 12th, after a poor start in race one I only managed to get up to 10th at the finish came back a bit stronger. In race two, with a bit of a better start, I made passes early to get into 6th.

The final race was reran after an incident on one of the fast back straights that had now gotten very cut up, luckily for me this gave me a second chance as I was buried at the back of the pack, managed to make the most of the rerun as I got a much better start and worked up to 5th, with one of my championship rivals going down this allowed me to go through for 4th across the line 5th overall and also allowed me to get back up to 3rd in the points standing. I came into the season with the hope of a top 5 and to finish on the podium is great considering that it was a challenging day in more than one way improving as the track got rougher and more technical. This was a nice to finish off my youth career.

I look forward to the remainder of the year and doing some more local events through Christmas and New Year.
