Blogger Liz Mitchell was inspired to get on her bike this summer.
After years of watching British and World Superbikes, MotoGP and my local speedway team (to which I am addicted), I thought it high time I gave this bike-riding malarkey a try myself. So four years ago I took a week-long course and by some miracle, passed my test. Within a week of gaining my licence I took delivery of my very first motorcycle – a Suzuki GSR600. A Ducati Streetfighter it wasn’t (one day…..), but it was mine. All mine. And I was hooked.
All the sporting action that is going on at the moment makes me even more determined to get out on my bike and practice my own sport - RIDING! Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying the Olympics, but the massive TV coverage combined with the fact it is holiday season is seeing the roads really quiet. In fact it couldn’t be more perfect for me jump on my bike for a few hours in the evenings and enjoy those empty roads, cruising along all by myself - unless of course they had let me ride down the cordoned off roads ahead of the Olympic on-road cycle events – that would have been something special. Imagine EMPTY London streets!
But, back to reality - I’m predicting the athletics finals to be an unmissable TV appointment for most - so I’ll be watching it on catch up ;) Go Team GB!!
